How Parenthood Changes Your Style (Without Losing Yourself)

When we brought home our second child—a healthy little boy—I knew my life was about to change again. What I didn’t expect was how quickly my relationship with fashion would shift too.

I’ve always cared about how I dress. It’s not about showing off or staying ahead of trends—it’s about feeling like myself. But with a toddler in one arm and a newborn in the other, the reality of everyday life hits hard. Suddenly, anything too delicate, too time-consuming, or too uncomfortable feels… irrelevant.

But here’s the thing: I don’t want to become invisible in my own closet. I don’t want to lose the part of me that enjoys style—especially the vintage-leaning, detail-appreciating part. So I’ve been exploring what it looks like to evolve, not erase.

From Statement to Staple

These days, I reach for clothes I can throw on with one hand—literally. Linen button-downs, oversized knits, and worn-in denim have become my go-tos. But I’m not sacrificing personality. A vintage band tee from the ’80s or a slightly worn leather belt makes all the difference.

Comfort is the New Chic

I used to think comfort was the enemy of style. But now I see it differently. There’s something undeniably cool about a well-loved sneaker or a soft cotton overshirt that tells its own story. And honestly? No one pulls off effortless like sleep-deprived parents.

Function with Flair

Having kids means pockets matter. So do sturdy fabrics, easy layers, and clothes that can handle a little spilled milk (literally). But I’ve found pieces that check all the boxes and still feel like me—like my vintage army jacket or the tote I thrifted in Aarhus.

A New Kind of Confidence

What’s surprised me the most is how much more confident I feel in my style now, even when I’m more casual. I dress for moments—morning walks, coffee runs, bedtime stories—not events. And somehow, that’s made me appreciate clothes even more.

Personal Note

If you’re in a similar place—maybe you just had a child or life has simply gotten busier—this is your reminder that you don’t need to start over. You just need to shift. Style, like life, evolves. And that evolution can be beautiful.
